SHS Bands Excel in Williamsburg, VA

This past weekend, the Spotswood High School Concert Band, Honors Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band participated in the Music in the Parks performance competition in Williamsburg, VA, competing among some of the finest instrumental ensembles in North America.

During Saturday's award ceremony at the Royal Palace Theater at Busch Gardens, the SHS Bands earned the following honors:

Jazz Band - Rated "Excellent" and placed 4th in Jazz Ensemble Class A
Concert Band - Rated "Excellent" and placed 1st in Concert Band Class A II
Honors Wind Ensemble - Rated "Superior" and placed 2nd in Concert Band Class A I

Of particular note was the Wind Ensemble, which received an average score of 94 - the highest recorded score in Spotswood history.

We are also grateful for the support and presence of our chaperones Andrew Zaborney, Dawn Schwartz, Diane Wells, Laura Patrone, and Lori Donelan, who kept our students on time and on track this weekend. Also, a very special thanks to the Spotswood Band Parents Association, which helped to fund the trip with immense fundraising efforts and countless volunteered hours.

And, a big "thank you!" to the faculty and staff at Spotswood High School, who have been supportive of our musicians spending extra time in Band in the weeks and months leading up to our performances.

Be sure to set aside Thursday, May 10th @ 6:30PM as the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band present their award-winning performances at the annual SHS Spring Concert!
